Cleaning up the scraps: Fabric Flowers

Hello all!

Well, I think Summer (er, Spring?) has officially arrived!

So, we're still working on using up our leftover fabric, and this week we'll be using it to make fabric flowers!

I used the fabric flowers to make-over a wreath for my front door.... but maybe you could make a lovely bouquet!.... You know, for your MOM...... for MOTHER'S DAY in 2 days? (Just a friendly reminder.) ;)

Ok!  So let's get started.

Fabric choices here are endless and completely up to you.  If you want stiffer flowers, use sturdier fabric and vice-versa.  Burlap would be so lovely!  You know I love felt for flowers too. :)

There are some really straight-forward tutorials out there; so I'm going to compile some of them here for you!

These were my references, but they're just a starting-off point for you!  You can make as many or as few flowers, as big or as small as you like.  Just have a blast and empty out that fabric scraps bin by making something beautiful!

Materials you'll need:
-Fabric of your choice
-Hot glue gun
-Needle and thread (optional)
-Scissors

Rolled Fabric Flower

I've made small wrapped flowers for hair accessories--- I love groupings of small flowers and really loose, oversized ones.  :)

Here is a super easy tutorial from OurBestBites.com:

Fringed or Loopy flower

I was pretty much out of felt, but I managed to make one small felt flower and one fabric flower.  With a long piece of felt in your favorite color, you could make the most fabulous loopy flower. :)  Bonus: if you cut the folded "loops", you can get a totally different but equally awesome fringed flower-- try it!

Here is a tutorial from UsefulDIY.com:

Box-Fold flower

You'll remember this from our felt flower headband post.  One technique, so many applications!

Here is the awesome tutorial again, from iCandy-Handmade.com:

Now, I just glued each flower onto the wreath, but you could use needle and thread or glue to attach them to anything!    Have any bamboo skewers handy?  Then glue those flowers onto those skewers, make some leaves out of fabric and, ta-daa!  You have an everlasting, super fabulous gift for Mom.... or maybe for your favorite teacher or nurse as we celebrate Teacher and Nurse Appreciation this week?

Bonus idea:
If you're making a wreath, why not find a plain wooden letter (I found one like this one from Hobby Lobby), wrap it in some twine using hot glue, and give it a fresh, fun coat of spray paint!  This is a wreath I've been using over the last year, but the flowers and the "S" were getting a little tired.  The sad, weather-worn, twine-covered "S" gets a happy facelift in this teal.  :)

Now, you're ready for sunny, flowery days!  Have fun!

Thanks for reading!
